NCRTM Team Meeting, 01-29-07

Jared

Department hosting a Western Oregon University training “Working with Latino Populations”, Feb. 15-16, Breeze.  On Feb. 8 will be doing a Breeze test-run with WOU; asked Ken if he would take charge of this (Jared will be in Boise); arrange with Linda Keller. Would like to host such seminars more frequently.  Zan will lend her instruction sheet for using Breeze technology, which can be forwarded to participants.  Also, Ben has expertise he can share.  Ultimately, Karl could be technical support for these seminars.
IOTI (Interagency Outreach Training Initiative) Grant through CPD  -- Training through employment: Jared helping to write this grant, which will be provided electronically – and NCRTM can host for a fee.
NCRE Conference:
oPresenting with Christine Anderson
oPresenting with Mike on Portals
oAttending Board meeting (taking Julie Smart’s place)

 Julie

Ordered the pens for NCRE Conf.
Bad emails now deleted from the email list.  Need to also be deleted from Moodle. Tyler will show Julie how to do this.  Work study could do this.
Created Portal pages for Mike.  Mike will post content.

 Zan

Question about recording for NCRE Conference:  Panel sessions will not be recorded. Zan will provide a couple of cameras and mics for sessions.  Will show Mike and Julie how to use equipment next Monday after the general meeting.
Jared suggested we obtain permission from the Board to tape presenters. Mike will email Michelle to ask if we can tape keynotes and post on our website – might build good will and a good precedent.  While getting permission, must also collect any PowerPoint presentations.  Also, get transcripts.  Julie has copy of release form we can use.
Eisenhower video:  funny . . . short . . . from the 50s.  Might be good addition to VR history on our website.  Needs to be transcribed for captioning.
Issue of best format to digitize (and re-digitize) videos: Tyler has been exploring the idea of using Flash -- said we can do captioning in Flash.  To caption a video file adds 1 ½ to 2 Xs the time to digitize video.  Discussed delegating this job to a certain person.
Zan’s experience with the process involves 1) obtaining the file and transcription from the DRC; 2) re-watching the video and entering time codes, hit function key to enter captions, (done in Producer); and 3) compile the file.  Since DRC is often very busy, suggested we train Amber (Work study) to do this.
Could train someone in TypeWell (they have a training contract with the University) – would be more efficient. Jared suggested Mike contact the local VR agency in Logan (Deb Bowen) to see if they have a consumer looking for employment, or self-employment, who might fit this job.

 Erica

Need to meet about Quality Circle data:  Every other Friday 3:00.
Ken suggested the meeting include a discussion of Jared’s data from Idaho. Meeting will include Erica, Jared, Mike, Ken, and Julie. (Idaho data: Information about Idaho’s VR Counselors – caseloads, performance history, etc. Used as a tool to evaluate counselors.)

 Tyler

Flash cannot convert captioned files.  Ken suggested we try to work with Camptasia.  Zan pointed out that we need to look at long-term solutions.  Ken said Flash should be good choice for long-term.

 Ken

Working on draft of PowerPoint presentation for Mike – “Issue Network”.  Will also create a draft or summary to hand out.  This presentation is about unified VR organizations -- looking at the separate organizations as an “orchestra” of voices.
Idaho Project – Talked with Renee in Idaho.  Will meet in Boise on March 6th (Ken, Jared, and Mike)  -  9 participants invited, 3 consented, 6 have not yet responded.  A.M. session will discuss VR issues; P.M. session will discuss eligibility. Will also explain Trees. Jared suggested that participants be notified ahead.
Google Analytics – 100 visits/day.  Page views used to number 2 ½ and are now over 4.  Being able to track this is valuable to our reporting to Ed at RSA.
Converted to Moodle 1.7 over the weekend. This changed structure of the website and names of links (example: ncrtm.org/CE is now CE/ncrtm.org).  This conversion will make the up-coming conversion to Moodle 1.8 easier.  Julie will need to update file links with new names.
Reminder:  Online classes next week, Feb. 7th and 8th.
Tuesday meeting:  Will discuss Keys; Breeze format.
Poster:  5 Concepts – get printed.
Dual Control book – Cambridge upbeat.  Will add questions, links and reading list at the end.
University Readers: Company works with materials for soft publishing on line.  They obtain copyright clearance and provide materials for readers for use in courses, training, etc.  Through them, NCRTM could create special readers – for example, a training for State Agencies that promotes best practice.

Gail

Working on 3 approaches to Keys:  abbreviations, acronyms, and a combination.
In process of getting posters printed for NCRE Conf.
Have been making phone calls about the recruitment project.

 Mike

Spoke to a Mandan elder last week in preparation for the CANAR Conference.  Conference seeks better integration of VR services for the 3 affiliated tribes.
Reminder:  Pres. Albrecht will visit NCRTM on Feb 2nd, around 10:45 a.m.
