NCRTM Team Meeting, 01-22-07

Introduction of Bryce Patten, new employee:  Will be picking up Rachel’s time for a while, 10 hrs/week.

Ken

Working on NCRE presentation. Positive aspects of having 13 VR organizations:
oHelps with lobbying to congress
VR organizations are unified in purpose when they go to congress, forming “telephone trees” to confront issues.
Prevention of “backdoor” lobbying
Many voices, one message
oPromotes a “Community of Practice” helping to unite different organizations.
Idaho project – waiting to hear from IRB.  Need to hear back from them before the presentation on Feb. 8
Google Analytics – Need g-mail account to get in – Julie has one.  Good activity nationwide for the NCRTM.
5 Concepts Poster on hold until after the NCRE Conference.
Dual Control book – waiting to hear from Cambridge.
Moodle 1.8: Coming soon.
oThis will change the structure of our sites and will set up roles.  Our site is presently not user friendly, Moodle 1.8 will help remedy.
oWill not need password to get into Portals.
oKen will create a Tree for customers/users – a system that will ask them to verify or change their information themselves. Ken will start the Tree to keep updates – Gail will manage them. There will be “help” for logging in.
Reminder: 2 online classes coming up.
oFeb 7, 1:00: Style Sheets (CSS)
oFeb 8, 1:00: XML (Extensible Markup Language) – Breeze, by Adobe -- XML code is specific code.  For example, instead of the term “Header”, XML will specify what the header is.
Tuesday training – will participate individually via Breeze.  Will show in Atlas TI (grounded theory) how to organize keys.

Zan

Started digitizing again last week.
Working with Angie on Medical Aspects class, starting on Spinal Cord Injuries. Mike will email Angie to check on status.
Cameras for NCRE Conference? Julie talked to KSAR but they do not rent equipment. Zan has two wireless mics and a camera we can use.  Mics are on the same frequency, which limits use.  Discussed hiring commercially from outside the hotel, but decided to use Zan’s equipment this time. In the future, Mike suggested that NCRE might want to help us buy equipment in exchange for posting the conference.

Julie

NCRE Conf – Will be ordering pens with our logo and website address imprint to give out at conference.  Gail will furnish vector file.
Work Study – will do work on our laptop. Discussed schedule and work space.  Can use extra desk in Tyler’s office and find an area in main space.
Working on website today: adding icons for Portals and Curriculum and linking them. Will add a website in Moodle that will link to the Portals – need Tyler’s help.
Learned how to back up Banner system.
Learning Quickbooks – used for Revenue; Excel used for expenditures -- Tammy still backing up on this.
Large display for NCRE Conf has not yet come – will check on this today.
Discussed email from customer who could not view our WMV files.  She does not have Windows Media Player.  Ken suggested we convert all our WMV files to Flash because it is more user friendly and more commonly used.  Camptasia designed to capture original video and convert to Flash.  Mike moved to table this discussion until after the NCRE Conference.  Zan pointed out that her computer would be full within 2 weeks and would need resolution fairly soon.  In the meantime, Tyler will test conversion of our WMV videos.
Discussed another email from customer who got a blank screen when clicking on PDF files in the Digital Library.  Julie suggests several things she could try.  Customer knows it is her computer and not our file, but needs help.  Julie suggested we provide a user manual for customers on our website.

Gail

Working on NCRE/CANAR posters.
Have some information on submitting ads to VR newsletters. Decided to table this until sometime in the future.
Typing Keys list for Ken and training meeting tomorrow.
