NCRTM Team Meeting, 02-26-07

Reports on CANAR and NCRE conferences

Mike:

CANAR (Consortia of Administrators for Native American Rehabilitation):

Organized by three tribes but includes every other tribe in the United States – voice for rehabilitation in Native American cultures.
Wants to work with NCRTM – write a Memo of Understanding to manage a Portal page with content specific to the interests of Native Americans
Would also like space to sell Native American art as revenue source – this is in the discussion stage. CANAR would manage the site.  Ken sees need to clarify different responsibilities; suggested NCRTM give them some support/advice  on pricing structure; suggests they could benefit from help from the Small Business Administration.
Mike is an associate member of CANAR – NCRTM will be an institutional member in near future.
Between now and August -- CANAR and NCRTM will work on this arrangement and meet in August in Savannah Georgia.

NCRE (National Council of Rehabilitation Education):

Julie:

NCRTM gave 3 presentations and a poster presentation, with laptop and internet -- looked real good
Positive response
Encouraged submissions from people
Gave handout soliciting feedback on what people would like to have from NCRTM
Talked to a few people interested in setting up a Portal Page
Filmed Mike and Jared presentations -- In the future, would like to have more than one mic that will work in a room.

Ken:

Saw a lot of diversity in conference attendees
Met with University Readers about producing standardized readers (syllabi and anthologies on specific topics).  UR takes care of  copyright clearance and digitizing.  Material would have NCRTM logo.
Will begin by talking to Julie Smart about her syllabi.  Also, will talk to Idaho about putting together readers for Idaho agencies.
Great presentation on Social Networking in the field of rehabilitation and Grounded Theory
Some good speakers (e.g. Alan Bruce from Ireland -- gave an international assessment

Mike:

NCRTM will eventually create an International Portal Page.
Job Board -- by Spring -- Encourage students to send in pictures and resumes.  NCRTM will create a job board and host Breeze interviews.
Charles Arokisomy -- brought his recruitment committee of 25 students to NCRE -- they will help with NCRTM recruitment project.
Students -- get students involved in professional organizations, create a student membership.  Idea:  "Gorilla Justice" -- send students out to scrutinize social justice within the community, report in writing back to NCRTM -- post best stories on NCRTM Website.
Ed (RSA) -- would like Mike to fly to 30 Human Resource offices in the U.S. -- Ed looking for supplemental travel money -- expenses may need to come out of NCRTM budget.
Performance reviews -- Ed needs this report soon.  Mike will be writing individual job descriptions with each employee -- will describe the processes of each job
Also need a policies and procedures manual.

Julie

Signed up for online class -- making university websites accessible -- Tuesday March 6, 12 p.m.
Have "Hi Caption" software for Flash and WMV files
FTP issue -- audio/video files presently can only be viewed, not downloaded.  Need to find a way to make these files downloadable. An FTP link will enable download.  FTP is a feature in Cybertools, but Karl turned it off because of security issues.  Will have it turned on. First, Tyler and Julie will see if download is possible using the http file.  If we need to use FTP, will have to redo links.  Julie will call Cybertools and see if they can make a global name change (to library.ncrtm.org) on all the files.

Gail
